The Wimbledon Club was established on 20th May 1854, initially playing cricket on Wimbledon Common. The Men’s hockey club was formed in 1883, mainly as a winter activity for cricketers with the Ladies hockey club formed in 1889, initially comprising family members of the cricketers and hockey players.

In 1890, the Club acquired the current site of nine acres from Miss Sarah Beaumont for £3,612. The development of the Club was built on the generosity and foresight of members and patrons in those early years.

In 1890, the cricket club built tennis courts in their present location as an additional source of income and created a tennis section. The first squash court was built in 1933.

The facilities now include a cricket pitch and practice nets, 7 grass tennis courts, 8 hard courts (clay, astro and acrylic - 5 floodlit), 5 squash courts (4 glass backed), an indoor sports hall which is used for tennis, cricket and hockey, and a fitness suite. Under long-term lease arrangements the Club has financed artificial turf hockey pitches at Raynes Park High School and King's College School grounds in Raynes Park.

The Clubhouse, which opened in April 1998, has a first floor bar and restaurant with balconies overlooking the tennis courts and cricket pitch. There are extensive changing rooms and showers and a well-equipped gym. Members can sit out on a summer's day and unwind with a drink and a meal, overlooking the famous spire of St. Mary's church whilst dinghies sail past on Wimbledon Park Lake — it's hard to believe we're only 8 miles from central London!

Our aim is to provide our members with the best possible facilities complete with comprehensive, structured, quality coaching opportunities in all four sports. To this end the Club has achieved the governing bodies’ benchmark accreditation in our sports, and offer the next generation of club members, similar coaching levels from experienced and qualified coaches in a safe and friendly environment. We pride ourselves on offering sports facilities and opportunities to top level elite and more social players alike without any discrimination.
